Iran seeks to expand regional gas ties through shared Hengam gas field

TEHRAN, Iran, June 14. Iran is eyeing to expand its energy ties in the region through collaborative development of the shared Hengam gas field with Oman, said energy expert Mehdi Hosseini, Trend reports citing ILNA.

He pointed out that the joint development of the Hengam gas field would help Iran connect its gas pipelines to the UAE and Kuwait.

He went on to say that Iran should run a new evaluation about the restrictions of contractors for joint development of the gas field.

Based on the recent contract, about 80 percent of the field accounts for Iran, and the country sees gas extraction as the main part of the field's development.

Iran and Oman agreed to divide the Hengam gas field in the Persian Gulf on an 80/20 rule as part of a recent contract signed between the two countries to jointly develop the field.
