March 8 – International Women’s Day was celebrated with several events in Izmir, Turkiye.
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, the Federation of Western Anatolian Industrialists and Business Associations (BASIFED), and the TOBB Izmir Women Entrepreneurs Council organized an event titled “The Name of Courage: Woman – 103 Years of Strength.”
The event aimed to strengthen the role of women in economic life and highlight inspiring success stories. Participants included the Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Cemil Tugay; the event’s concept leader Oznur Tugay; BASIFED Chairperson Semiha Gunes; Chairperson of the TOBB Izmir Women Entrepreneurs Council Deniz Celep; and others.
Well-known figures from business, entrepreneurship, arts, media, and non-governmental organizations delivered speeches and took part in panel discussions. Azerbaijani artist and diaspora activist Roza Ibadova Kocamaz emphasized the importance of empowering women in society and in economic life during her speech.
In addition, another event marking March 8 was held with the participation of Azerbaijani women and students living in Izmir. The head of the Izmir Azerbaijan Culture and Solidarity Association, Esref Tuna, presented plaques to active young participants.
A speech by student Ali Poladzade, who studies in Manisa, added a special touch to the event.
