An event was held to mark the 20th anniversary of the Finland-Azerbaijan Friendship Society. Organized with the support of the State Committee on Work with the Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the ceremony brought together diplomats, public and political figures, cultural representatives, and representatives of Azerbaijani diaspora organizations operating in different countries.
Chairwoman of the Society, Tarana Nazarova, spoke about the projects implemented, initiatives launched, and contributions made by the organization over its 20 years of activity to the development of friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Finland. She expressed her gratitude to the participants for the attention, support, and cooperation extended to the Society throughout these years.
In their speeches, diplomats highlighted the Society’s consistent and valuable initiatives and highly praised its activities. One speaker’s remark, “You are a gift to Finland,” was regarded as an indication of the Society’s contribution to the development of Azerbaijan-Finland relations.
At the event, Finnish cultural figures shared their warm and sincere views about Azerbaijan, emphasized the importance of further expanding cultural ties between the two countries, and wished the Society continued success in its future activities. The words of renowned Finnish cultural figure Sofi Oksanen, “I love you, Azerbaijan!”, were met with great enthusiasm and applause. Finnish writer and state prize laureate Anita Konkka presented signed copies of her acclaimed novel “Hullun Taivaassa” to active members of the Society.
The event continued with a performance by Azerbaijani pianist and conservatory lecturer Kamal Ashurbeyli, who delighted the guests with works by Azerbaijani composers. A presentation of Azerbaijani national dances was among the most memorable and heartfelt moments of the event. Finnish guests joined in the dancing to the sounds of Azerbaijani national music, adding a special atmosphere to the celebration.
The event was also remembered as a significant gathering that contributed to further strengthening friendship, cultural cooperation, and mutual respect between Azerbaijan and Finland.
