Azerbaijani scientist and researcher Nicat Mehdiyev has begun working as a professor of Information Systems, specializing in Intelligent Information Systems and Processes, at Leipzig University in Germany.
Alongside his new academic role, Mehdiyev will continue serving as a department manager and senior researcher at the Institute of Information Systems of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), one of the world's largest nonprofit artificial intelligence research institutions.
The Faculty of Economics and Management Science at Leipzig University welcomed Mehdiyev's appointment and expressed satisfaction with his addition to its academic team.
Strong academic background in Germany and the United States
Mehdiyev has built an extensive academic career in information systems, artificial intelligence and data-driven process analysis.
He earned his bachelor's degree in Information Systems from the University of Siegen in Germany.
During the final two semesters of his undergraduate studies, he attended the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma, United States, on a scholarship awarded by the University of Siegen.
He subsequently completed a joint master's program in Finance and Information Management offered by the Technical University of Munich and the University of Augsburg, graduating with distinction.
Mehdiyev continued his academic journey at Saarland University, where he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation with the highest distinction.
His research, titled Explainable Artificial Intelligence for Predictive Process Analytics: Conceptual Framework, Methods and Applications, focused on developing transparent and understandable artificial intelligence methods for analyzing and predicting business processes.
Contributions to artificial intelligence research
In addition to his academic achievements, Mehdiyev has been actively involved in scientific research at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence.
His work focuses on intelligent information systems, predictive process analytics and the practical application of AI technologies.
Through his research and leadership roles at DFKI, he contributes to the development of innovative approaches to information management and AI-supported decision-making.
Mehdiyev has also maintained connections with the Azerbaijani scientific and engineering community abroad.
He delivered presentations on artificial intelligence at the second and third Forums of Azerbaijani Engineers Living in Europe, where he also moderated a panel discussion.
His appointment at Leipzig University represents another professional milestone for an Azerbaijani researcher working in Germany's academic and technology sectors.
The new position will allow him to combine university teaching with ongoing scientific research, contributing to the development of intelligent information systems and artificial intelligence applications.
