A concert titled “Classical Music Beyond Time and Space – Vol. 1: From Azerbaijan to the World”, performed by Azerbaijani pianist Gulnara Safarova, who lives in Tokyo, has been held in the Japanese capital.
The concert was supported by the State Committee on Work with the Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan and took place at Tokyo’s prestigious Meguro Persimmon Hall concert venue.
The musical evening consisted of three parts. Works by Azerbaijani, European and Japanese composers were performed by 12 professional musicians and a choir, receiving an enthusiastic response from the audience.
The first part of the concert was dedicated to the rich legacy of renowned Azerbaijani composer Gara Garayev. Selected compositions included in a new music album featuring the composer’s works, produced with the support of the State Committee on Work with the Diaspora, were among the most memorable moments of the program.
The second part featured works by Eastern and Western European composers, highlighting the richness of Azerbaijani music and its connection with the global classical heritage. The third part focused on Azerbaijani and Japanese composers, featuring works by Gara Garayev and Fikret Amirov alongside music by Japanese composers.
A special photo exhibition highlighting the promotion of Azerbaijani music in Japan and the development of cultural ties between the two countries was also held as part of the concert. The exhibition featured photographs from various musical events held in Japan over the years.
The event was described as an important step toward further strengthening friendship between Azerbaijan and Japan, particularly cultural and humanitarian ties, and promoting Azerbaijani classical music internationally.
The concert also attracted the attention of Japanese media and local information outlets, with reports about the event published across various information platforms.
