Marneuli hosts memorial event for Zalimkhan Yagub

An event titled “leaning on the tree you planted”, dedicated to the memory of prominent Turkic poet Zalimkhan Yagub, was held in Marneuli through the joint organization of the “Azerbaijan House” operating in Marneuli and the Georgia Azerbaijanis Integration Center (GAIC), as well as on the initiative of the Union of Azerbaijani-language Schools in Georgia.

The event was attended by Cavid Maharramov, representative of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Georgia; Salih Özer, head of the Georgian office of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA); Arif Suleymanov, deputy mayor of Dmanisi; Hüseyn Yusibov, chairman of the Congress of Georgia Azerbaijanis; Professor Shuraddin Mammadli; as well as public figures, intellectuals, and school students.

Məhəbbət İmanov, director of the “Azerbaijan House” and GAIC, delivered the opening speech, providing information about the poet’s life and creative work. He noted that events are regularly held to preserve and promote Zalimkhan Yagub’s rich literary legacy.

Cavid Maharramov, representative of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Georgia, stated that the Azerbaijani state has always honored the memory of Zalimkhan Yagub and is carrying out important work to pass his literary heritage on to future generations.

Other speakers also shared their thoughts on the poet’s work, his place in the Turkic world, and his contributions to literature.

In the artistic part of the event, a performance titled “Leaning on the Tree You Planted” was presented.

At the end, the poet’s brother, Chingiz Yagubov, expressed his gratitude for the organization of the event.
