An event titled “Two Independent Voices of the Caucasus”, dedicated to May 28 – Azerbaijan’s Independence Day and May 26 – Georgia’s Independence Day, was held in Marneuli. The event was organized jointly by the Azerbaijan House in Marneuli and the Georgian Azerbaijanis Integration Center, with the support of Azerbaijan’s State Committee on Work with Diaspora.
Among the participants were Zaur Dargalli, Marneuli Mayor Daur Ismayilov, Dmanisi Mayor Koba Muradashvili, representatives of local self-government bodies, the Mufti of the Administration of All Georgia Muslims Etibar Eminov, community representatives, intellectuals, and young people.
The event began with the national anthems of Azerbaijan and Georgia.
Director of the Azerbaijan House and GAIM, Mahabbat Imanov, emphasized the importance of the friendship and strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Georgia. He noted that celebrating the independence days of both countries together reflects the mutual respect and shared values that unite the two peoples.
Georgian MP Zaur Dargalli stated that May 26 and May 28 symbolize the historic achievements of the Georgian and Azerbaijani peoples in their pursuit of freedom, statehood, and national self-determination. He also recalled the historic contributions of Heydar Aliyev and Eduard Shevardnadze to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between the two countries.
Marneuli Mayor Daur Ismayilov and Dmanisi Mayor Koba Muradashvili described independence as the greatest asset of any nation and highlighted that the friendship, mutual trust, and strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Georgia make an important contribution to regional development.
Mufti Etibar Eminov stressed the importance of independence, unity, and solidarity in societal development, noting that Azerbaijani-Georgian brotherhood strengthens mutual understanding and trust between the two peoples.
The cultural segment of the event featured performances of Azerbaijani and Georgian national dances by the “Sarvan” Folklore Ensemble, which operates under GAIM. Renowned performers Shaban Mammadov, Iamze Jgeli, Ramin Pirmammadov, and ashug artist Nargiz Mehdiyeva added a festive atmosphere to the celebration with their performances.
