President Ilham Aliyev, during his historic speech at the 5th Victory Congress of World Azerbaijanis held in Shusha, stated: “Azerbaijanis living abroad are a great force... Their activity, the promotion of the truth about Azerbaijan, and the defense of our national interests undoubtedly make our state even stronger.”
Guided by these recommendations, the State Committee on Work with Diaspora continues to strengthen ties with Azerbaijani communities abroad and carries out numerous initiatives to reinforce the country’s global standing.
At a meeting with the Azerbaijani community living in Paris and surrounding regions, Deputy Chairman Vagif Seyidbayov and committee staff participated. The event began with the national anthem of Azerbaijan and a moment of silence in memory of martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country’s territorial integrity.
The deputy chairman praised the diaspora’s efforts in promoting Azerbaijani realities, defending national interests, and maintaining unity within communities abroad, while also outlining the new diaspora strategy. He noted that the diaspora policy founded by Heydar Aliyev has continued to evolve under President Ilham Aliyev in line with modern challenges.
Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to France, Leyla Abdullayeva, emphasized the important role of the diaspora in strengthening and developing relations between Azerbaijan and France. She highlighted the positive impact of such meetings on shaping the post-war agenda of the Azerbaijani community in France.
The meeting stressed the importance of successful integration of Azerbaijanis abroad into their host societies, networking, preserving national identity, language, and cultural heritage, and representing the country effectively. This balance is vital for personal development, protection of national interests, and maintaining ideological unity.
It was also noted that Azerbaijanis living in France actively combat disinformation about the country, contribute to protecting its international image, and support the development of bilateral relations.
During discussions, participants shared proposals and initiatives for the near and long term, and their questions were addressed in detail.
A presentation and video highlighting the activities of the Diaspora Committee and showcasing diaspora unity were shown. Azerbaijani political analyst Mashallah Razmi was awarded the “For Service in Diaspora Activity” medal of Azerbaijan. He expressed gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev for the honor.
Later, a meeting of the Coordination Council of Azerbaijanis in France was held. Coordinators Gunel Safarova and Mehriban Ovchuyeva provided detailed information about the council’s activities.
It was noted that Coordination Councils established in various countries play a unifying and coordinating role among diaspora organizations, helping to form a common position, expand information exchange, and increase joint initiatives. Through these platforms, national holidays and important historical events related to Azerbaijan are celebrated more widely, strengthening the country’s international image.
Finally, it was emphasized that regular and systematic meetings with Azerbaijani communities abroad are crucial for strengthening solidarity within the diaspora and for shaping modern ideas and missions to promote Azerbaijan’s truths to the international community.
