A meeting was held with Azerbaijani students at the Azerbaijan Center of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University with Orkhan Hasanoglu, Chairman of the Azerbaijan–Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Friendship Society, Director of the Heydar Aliyev International Cultural Center operating in Northern Cyprus, and Director of the Multicultural Department of the International Final University.
Leyla Amrahova, Head of the Heydar Aliyev Auditorium operating under Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and Chairwoman of the “Alliance” Youth Center, stated that the purpose of the meeting was to inform students about educational opportunities at universities in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Javid Maharramov, a responsible officer of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Georgia, spoke about Azerbaijan–Georgia, Azerbaijan–Türkiye, and Azerbaijan–Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus relations, emphasizing the state’s continued support for compatriots living abroad.
Orkhan Hasanoglu provided information on the areas of activity of the Azerbaijan–Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Friendship Society, the goals of the Heydar Aliyev International Cultural Center, as well as the social and educational activities of Azerbaijanis living in Northern Cyprus. He noted that more than 2,000 Azerbaijanis currently live in Northern Cyprus—known as the “island of universities”—and that approximately 1,000 of them are students. He also highlighted that Azerbaijanis from Georgia study and work there in various fields.
