BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 23. It is planned to expand the renewable energy infrastructure in Azerbaijan by ensuring public-private partnership, Trend reports with reference to the Strategy for socio-economic development of Republic of Azerbaijan for 2022-2026.
Azerenergy JSC and Azerishig JSC will be engaged in the project’s implementation that will cover the period from 2022 to 2026. It is planned to take measures to encourage the engagement of the private sector in works on this energy infrastructure. Moreover, power plants working on renewables will be constructed and commissioned during this period, thereby increasing the share of alternative energy in electricity generation. The number of new power plants working on renewables is yet to be confirmed.
The potential of renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan is 27,000 MW, including 3,000 MW in wind energy, 23,000 MW in solar energy, 380 MW in biomass energy, and 520 MW in the energy of mountain rivers.
The total installed capacity of electricity production in Azerbaijan is 7 542 megawatts, and the total capacity of power plants using renewable energy sources, including large hydroelectric power plants, is 1 304 megawatts.
