Annual consumer price inflation in Türkiye fell to almost 50% in March, official data showed on Monday, slightly below forecast, easing further ahead of May 14 presidential and parliamentary elections.
The consumer price index (CPI) dropped to 50.51% on an annual basis last month, the Turkish Statistical Insitute (TurkStat) said.
The inflation rate thus slowed for a fifth consecutive month.
Consumer prices rose 2.29% from a month earlier, the statistical institute said.
The reading came in less than a predicted 2.85% in a Reuters poll. It had forecast that consumer prices would be up 51.3% from a year earlier, and were expected to end the year at 46.5%.
Inflation had touched a 24-year peak of 85.51% in October. It fell sharply in December and eased to 55.2% in February.
The domestic producer price index was up 0.44% month-over-month in March for an annual rise of 62.45%, the statistical institute said.
