Iran‘s plan to transfer Persian Gulf water inland is underway

TEHRAN, Iran, September 12. Iran’s plan to transfer Persian Gulf water to Fars Province is ongoing with 15 trillion rials (about $3.5 billion) investment, said the Managing Director of Lamard Special Economic Zone Ehsan Ansari, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

The following plan is specifically to transfer water to Lamard and Parsian cities in Fars Province and requires more than 5 trillion rials ($1.1 billion) investment to bring water to the city, Ansari said.

Building necessary infrastructure for water supply in Lamard Special Economic Zone has been planned in the past Iranian year (started March 21, 2021), he noted.

Ansari pointed out that the water transfer pipeline is expected to transport 60 million cubic meters of water to Lamard Special Economic Zone. Kowsar Dam reservoir in Kohkiluye and Boyer Ahmad province currently supplies water to Lamard and other cities and ports in the region.

According to the official, the construction of 913 megawatts Ghadir power plant and wastewater treatment plant are two other ongoing projects in Lamard Special Economic Zone.

The project aims to promote production, industry, and agriculture, as well as provide drinkable water, maintain the country’s food security and create new job opportunities.
