BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 26. The volume of oil transported to Türkiye via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline showed a notable increase, Trend reports.
The data from the Turkish BOTAŞ company shows that from January to April 2023, the transportation of oil reached 74.140 million barrels, compared to 69.713 million barrels during the same period in the previous year. This indicates a year-on-year growth of 6.35 percent, equivalent to an additional 4.427 million barrels.
In terms of monthly figures, the highest volume of oil transportation via the BTC pipeline to Türkiye was recorded in March, reaching 19.762 million barrels. Conversely, the lowest figure was observed in February, with 15.882 million barrels transported.
The BTC oil pipeline spans a total length of 1,768 kilometers, with 443 kilometers running through Azerbaijan, 249 kilometers through Georgia, and 1,076 kilometers through Türkiye. Construction of the pipeline commenced in April 2003, and it began transporting oil on May 18, 2005.
BTC Co, the company established on August 1, 2002, to oversee the project, has several shareholders. These include bp (30.1 percent), AzBTC (25 percent), MOL (8.9 percent), Equinor (8.71 percent), TRAO (6.53 percent), Eni (5 percent), Total (5 percent), Itochu (3.4 percent), Inpex (2.5 percent), ExxonMobil (2.5 percent), and ONGC (2.36 percent).
Since the start of commercial deliveries in 2006 until the end of 2022, the BTC pipeline has transported over 4 billion barrels of oil.
