TEHRAN, Iran, July 19. Iran has recently signed the first long-term electricity deal with Iraq, Iran Electricity Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian announced, Trend reports citing Fars News Agency.
According to the Minister, there have been many areas of cooperation between Iran and Iraq including the construction of new power plants and the maintenance of existing generating units.
Mehrabian noted that Iran is currently the region's top country in terms of power generation, pointing to the government's plan to increase exports of various types of electrical engineering services.
"Singing long-term strategic electricity contracts with regional countries is among the government's energy diplomacy," he said.
Referring to strategic electricity cooperation between Iran and Iraq, the Minister of Energy said Iranian companies have constructed 1,950-megawatt power plants in Iraq so far.
