BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 23. Trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and EU countries from January through March 2023 increased almost threefold year-on-year, Trend reports.
According to the data of Kyrgyzstan’s statistical committee, trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and the EU reached $270.2 million in 1Q2023, indicating a year-on-year increase of 172 percent or 2.7 times, compared to the previous amount of $99 million. The trade turnover with the EU represented 9.9 percent of Kyrgyzstan's overall trade turnover.
Exports from Kyrgyzstan to EU countries reached $54.3 million, or 12.5 percent of Kyrgyzstan's total exports. The figure is 177 percent or 2.7 times higher than in the same period of 2022 ($19.6 million).
Imports by Kyrgyzstan from the EU amounted to $215.8 million in the reporting period, increasing by 171 percent over $79.4 million in 1Q2022.
As earlier reported by European Commission (EC), Kyrgyzstan mainly exports raw materials and agricultural products to the EU.
Back in 2022, Lithuania stood as the primary European importer of Kyrgyz goods, with imports valued at 47 million euros in 2022. Additionally, Germany imported goods for 24 million euros, Poland for 16 million euros, Slovakia for 13 million euros, and Latvia for 11 million euros.
