BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 22. Prices for essential commodities such as wheat flour, vegetable oil, and cottonseed oil in Tajikistan from May 8 to 14 experienced a decline of 1 to 2 percent, compared to the previous week, Trend reports.
According to the World Food Programme (WFP), the average retail price for first-grade wheat flour in Tajikistan stood at 5.1 somoni ($0.4) per kilogram as of May 8, indicating a 1 percent decrease compared to the previous report of May 1. The highest price for wheat, 6.4 somoni ($0.5), was recorded in Ishkoshim village, while the lowest price was observed in Istaravshan city at 4.5 somoni ($0.4).
During the reported period, the average price for vegetable oil in Tajikistan declined by 1 percent, amounting to 19.1 somoni ($1.75) per liter. The highest price was registered in Murgob city – 30.7 somoni ($2.81) and the lowest in Istaravshan city – 17 somoni ($1.56).
In the meantime, the average cost of a liter of cotton oil in Tajikistan reached 17.6 somoni ($1.61), representing a 2 percent decrease compared to the preceding week. Murgob city recorded the highest prices for this oil type, with rates reaching 28 somoni ($2.57) per liter, while Dushanbe city had the lowest prices at 15.3 somoni ($1.43) per liter.
In collaboration with the advisory organization Neksigol Mushovir, the World Food Programme (WFP) has been conducting market surveillance to track commodity prices throughout Tajikistan.
The price data is collected through the network of field enumerators. For each commodity, multiple traders are interviewed, and the average prices are recorded.
