Azerbaijan reveals details of Black Sea power transmission line project

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct.20. It is planned to lay a 1,195-kilometer power transmission line with a capacity of 1,000 MW between Georgia and Romania and install a digital connecting cable as part of the project for transportation of electricity from Azerbaijan along the bottom of the Black Sea, the country’s energy minister Parviz Shahbazov said in his article published in the Respublika newspaper, Trend reports October 20.

“To this end, it is planned to prepare a feasibility study for the project by the end of 2023 with the support of the World Bank. At present, the issue of creating a quadripartite format of cooperation between Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary is being discussed,” he said.

The minister noted that this project will create a green corridor, diversify Azerbaijan’s electricity export markets, increase the country's role as a supplier and strengthen the integration of the Caspian region with Europe and the Black Sea region.

“Thus, Azerbaijan has great prospects for diversifying sources of energy supplies to Europe using green energy,” Shahbazov said.
