BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 24. Japan plans to provide a grant of 700 million yen ($5.3 million) for the purchase of the new equipment and machinery for the construction of the roads in the Batken region of Kyrgyzstan, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Transport and Communication of Kyrgyzstan.
The grant agreement was signed by Minister of Finance Almaz Baketaev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Kyrgyzstan Hideki Goda, and Permanent Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency in Kyrgyzstan Hiroyuki Kawamoto.
The main objective of the grant is to support logistics security in the Central Asian region through the construction of disaster-resistant roads in the Batken region.
The funding is to be provided within the frame of the Improvement of Equipment for the Maintenance of Roads and Pavement in Batken Region project.
Notably, within the framework of this project, more than 50 pieces of machinery and equipment will be purchased. The project is planned to be executed by the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kyrgyzstan.
Meanwhile, following the 9th Ministerial Council of Foreign Ministers of the Dialogue "Central Asia + Japan" on 24 December 2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Jeenbek Kulubaev said that Kyrgyz side is interested in deepening trade, economic and investment cooperation with Japan. In particular, he emphasized the existing prospects for increasing the export of environmentally friendly domestic products.
