BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 4. UAE's Masdar plans to help Uzbekistan to reduce energy dependence on gas and coal, Trend reports via the Uzbek Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade.
As part of the visit of the delegation of Uzbekistan, headed by the Deputy Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Shukhrat Vafaev, to the UAE, negotiations were held with the General Director of Masdar, Mohamed Al Ramahi.
During the meeting, the parties discussed topical issues on the agenda of cooperation, including the possibility of accelerating the implementation of large investment projects in the energy sector in Uzbekistan.
Al Ramahi informed that Masdar plans to start construction of a wind power plant with a capacity of 500 MW in the Navoi region in August 2022, and in December 2022, photovoltaic stations with a total capacity of 897 MW in Surkhandarya, Jizzakh and Samarkand regions.
The implementation of these projects will help Uzbekistan achieve its goals of increasing the amount of electricity generated from solar and wind energy to 8 GW and bringing the share of alternative energy sources in the country's total energy balance to 25 percent by 2026, which will reduce Uzbekistan's energy dependence on gas and coal.
