Turkmenistan, EU intend to deepen co-op in energy sector

BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 18.Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Kingdom of Belgium Sapar Palvanov held a meeting with the Head of Cabinet to European Commissioner for Energy Stefano Grassi, Trendreports with reference to the Turkmen media.

During the meeting held in the building of the European Commission, Sapar Palvanov noted that Turkmenistan sees the EU as a reliable partner in energy issues, and confirmed its readiness to further deepen and strengthen cooperation in the relevant field. In this regard, the Ambassador stressed the expediency of organizing high-level meetings, and also proposed to establish a bilateral systematic dialogue on energy issues.

Stefano Grassi, approved the proposal of the Turkmen Ambassador and stated that he would support the organization of a meeting between representatives of the Turkmen Government and European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson, and also offered to organize a dialogue with the participation of specialists of the energy sector of Turkmenistan and relevant EU representatives in March in the capital of Belgium, Brussels.

The Turkmen diplomat expressed gratitude to the European side for the established dialogue on studying the European experience in reducing the impact of energy carriers on the atmosphere and reducing methane emissions during their transportation and use and noted that the first negotiations in the relevant area were successfully held in November last year in the capital of Turkmenistan, Ashgabat.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Vepa Hajiyev discussed issues of energy cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EU at a meeting with Deputy Director-General in the Directorate-General for Energy at the European Commission Matthew Baldwin in Brussels at the end of January this year.
