Kazakhstan's Almaty, US Chamber of Commerce discuss boosting economic ties

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 5. The trade turnover between Kazakhstan's Almaty and the US reached $805.7 million in 2022, Trend reports.

This was stated during a meeting between Akim (head) of Kazakhstan's Almaty Yerbolat Dosayev and the Senior Vice President for the Middle East, Türkiye, and Central Asia Affairs of the US Chamber of Commerce, Khush Choksy.

At the meeting, the sides discussed bilateral cooperation to strengthen economic ties and develop the city's business ecosystem.

It was noted that as the largest city and financial center of the country, Almaty plays a crucial role in promoting trade and investments between Kazakhstan and the US. The city is home to 128 joint ventures and 399 US companies (with a total of 695 companies in Kazakhstan). The trade turnover between Almaty and the US increased by 21.7 percent in 2022, reaching $805.7 million.

Khush Choksy also expressed readiness to expand the mutually beneficial partnership. The US Chamber of Commerce represents over 3 million companies, nearly 3,000 chambers of commerce from individual states and municipalities, 830 associations, and 111 US Chambers of Commerce in foreign countries. In Kazakhstan, the US-Kazakhstan Business Council serves as a structural unit of the US Chamber of Commerce, comprising 26 members.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to develop bilateral relations further, attract investments, and expand economic ties between Almaty and the US.

The meeting was also attended by the US Consul General in Almaty, Caroline Savage, the CEO of the US-Kazakhstan Business Council, Jennifer Mie, and representatives of business circles (Chevron, Valmont Irrigation, Coca-Cola, Mastercard, Borusan Caterpillar, Honeywell Kazakhstan).
