Kazakhstan’s passenger turnover reaches pre-pandemic level

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 5. Kazakh airlines serviced over 11 million passengers in 2022, which exceeds the pre-pandemic level, Marat Karabayev, Minister of Industry and Infrastructural Development of Kazakhstan, said, Trend reports, citing the press service of the Kazakh President.

The statement was made in the framework of the meeting with the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The minister added that Kazakh Airlines extended the network of available flights during the past year. Additionally, negotiations are ongoing to launch flights to Tokyo, Singapore, Shanghai, and New York.

Karabayev also noted that Kazakhstan implemented the “open sky” policy. The policy, introduced in international airports of the country, removes all restrictions on the number of flights and provides foreign airlines with a fifth degree of freedom of the air on routes where Kazakh airlines do not operate.

He also noted that the ministry is working on improving the condition of the road network. Modernization and reconstruction of 8,000 kilometers of roads are planned to be concluded by 2029.

The minister concluded by saying that the shortage of railway carriages is being addressed to boost the transport and logistics potential of the country. The production of railway carriages and locomotives will be carried out at domestic plants with the participation of Stadler, Alstom, and Wabtec.

Transport infrastructure development is one of the key priorities of the Kazakh government. The government is actively working to boost its transport and logistics potential. Kazakhstan’s role as one of the key components of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, also known as the Middle Corridor, requires the Central Asian nation to significantly improve transport infrastructure.
