Kazkahstan’s Koksu sugar plant eyes to increase production

BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 25. Kazakhstan’s Koksu sugar plant plans to produce 92,000 tons of sugar in 2023, Trend reports, citing the press service of the Prime Minister.

The plant produced around 70,000 tons of sugar in 2022, in comparison. The plant aims to increase production to 180,000 tons by 2026.

The increase in production is attributed to the modernization, which was carried out at the plant several years ago. Currently, the heating systems at the plant operate on gas, and new equipment is fully commissioned, which enabled the plant to improve the efficiency of operations.

Alikhan Smailov, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, noted that the government continues to support the sugar industry. The PM added that the sowing area of sugar beets will be increased to ensure a sustainable level of supplies to support the work of the Koksu sugar plant.

Sugar prices increased dramatically in Kazakhstan recently. The peak was observed during the summer of 2022, when sugar prices reached 900 Kazakh tenge ($2) per kilogram. To satisfy the growing demand and facilitate the reduction of prices, the government launched subsidies. This step brought the price of sugar down to 400 Kazakh tenge ($0.89).
