Kazakh bank to start issuing 'Mir' payment cards

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 23. “VTB Kazakhstan”, a subsidiary of VTB Group in Kazakhstan, plans to issue digital cards of Russian 'Mir' payment systems for retail customers, Trend reports, citing the press service of the Bank.

Reports indicate that “VTB Kazakhstan” intends to start issuing digital cards in the first quarter of 2023.

The issuer said in a statement that 'Mir' payment system digital cards, issued in Kazakhstan, will support operations necessary for the daily activities of retail customers.

Earlier, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Department of the Treasury allowed Kazakh banks to carry out operations with 'Mir' payment cards, however, the agency intends to monitor them.

“The permission was given for the purpose of completing the deals necessary for everyday activities of individual customers, specifically people relocated from Russia to Kazakhstan,” The OFAC statement said.
