Uzbekistan takes significant steps in privatization of strategic organizations, expert says

BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 8. The government of Uzbekistan has taken a significant step in the privatization of strategic organizations, as well as the sale of the state's stake in highly profitable sectors of the economy, an independent economist and researcher Ulugbek Kamaletdinov, told Trend.

According to him, reforms in the field of protecting private property have made it possible to significantly reduce the presence of the state in the economy, introduce more open forms of selling state assets, including through open online platforms, and establish private ownership of non-agricultural land for the first time.

Kamaletdinov noted that the implementation of the Privatization Program in Uzbekistan should significantly accelerate the withdrawal of the state from the economy, where there is already competition from private companies.

“However, problems remain with a large number of “quasi-state” private companies, where the controlling stake is left to the state, as well as unitary enterprises that continue to work in areas where a competitive environment has already been formed, having advantages over private companies,” he added.
