BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 22. The International Road Transport Union (IRU) supports Turkmenistan in the implementation of the eTIR international customs digital system, a source in the IRU told Trend.
"At the national level, IRU and Turkmenistan established a partnership prior to the pandemic to modernize customs control and facilitate international transit, most notably for the electronic pre-declaration of customs information, known as TIR-EPD, and the integration of eTIR into Turkmen customs systems of Turkmenistan," said the source.
It was noted that the successful implementation of TIR-EPD in Turkmenistan is an important step in this direction.
"TIR-EPD is an application, enabling TIR guarantee holders to submit electronic pre-declarations (EPDs) to customs authorities in different countries, without any need to apply for intermediary services and bear extra costs," IRU said.
Furthermore, the organization stressed that with TIR-EPD, customs authorities are able to confirm that the pre-declaration was submitted by an authorized TIR carnet holder and that the TIR carnet is valid. This exchange of advanced information facilitates pre-arrival risk analysis and makes border crossings simpler, safer, and faster.
