Turkmenistan represented at ICAO Assembly in Montreal

Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Meret Orazov took part in the 41st session of the ICAO Assembly, which takes place from September 27 to October 7 at the headquarters of the UN specialized agency for aviation in Montreal, Canada, ORIENT reported.

On the agenda of the meeting in a hybrid format are priority tasks in the field of innovation and sustainability in aviation policy. Solutions that support the digital format of contactless passenger service at airports will become another important direction in the development of air transport. Cybersecurity will also be fundamental to the viability and sustainability of the civil aviation system in the future.

Speaking to the heads of delegations, ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar emphasized that over the past three years the aviation sector has been “critically impacted” and the participants of the event need to focus on priority areas, including “recovering air transport and ensuring its sustainability, agreements on goals in reduction of CO2 emissions, as well as ICAO's policy on support for implementation and the transformational goal of improving the quality of service”.

The Government of Turkmenistan maintains close cooperation with ICAO within the framework of the National Program for the Development of Civil Aviation until 2030. Primary attention in this cooperation is paid to ensuring the highest possible industry standards and improving transportation safety.

The sustainability of transport is a key component of the internal and external strategy of Turkmenistan in this area, which is also reflected in the country's international initiatives, enshrined in UN resolutions: "On the creation of transit transport corridors", "The role of transport and transit corridors in ensuring international cooperation for sustainable development", " Strengthening links between all modes of transport to ensure stable and reliable international transport for sustainable development during and after the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.”
