BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 15. The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) continues to support the implementation of the National Action Plan to End Statelessness in Turkmenistan within the framework of the #IBelong global campaign, UNHCR Representative for Central Asia, Hans Friedrich Schodder told Trend.
"UNHCR and the Government of Turkmenistan sign and implement joint annual work plans to find long-term solutions for refugees. In accordance with these plans, the organization implements capacity-building activities for the authorities of Turkmenistan and civil society, including their participation in international trainings and seminars," the UNHCR representative said.
He noted that the project of the Joint World Bank-UNHCR Data Center on Forced Displacement supports the collection and analysis of information on statelessness during the national population census of 2022.
"At the moment, UNHCR, in cooperation with UNFPA, is contributing to the development of information materials on the census and information campaigns. At the same time, the organization cooperates with the Turkmen authorities in the field of emergency preparedness and response to the influx of refugees. Joint activities include a dialogue with the authorities on specific scenarios for planning response measures with the participation of UN agencies, the national Red Crescent Society and civil society organizations," the representative of the organization added.
