WB shares forecast on Tajikistan's GDP growth for 2022-2023

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 8. World Bank shared an updated Tajikistan’s GDP growth forecast for 2022-2023, Trend reports referring to the World Bank's (WB) report.

Tajikistan's GDP growth is expected at -0.4 percent in 2022. The main slowdown factor in the current year is military conflict between Russia and Ukraine, said the report.

Moreover, economies of such Europe and Central Asia (ECA) countries as Kyrgyzstan, Belarus and Moldova, apart from Tajikistan, Ukraine and Russia are expected to drop off in 2022.

However, when the economy of Tajikistan adjusts to the new circumstances, GDP growth will accelerate to 3.3 percent in 2023, the bank said.

According to WB, the already precarious humanitarian situation would deteriorate even more. The outlook remains vulnerable to financial stress, especially given high debt levels and elevated inflation.
