BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 11. The number of Tajikistan’s citizens arriving in Russia for various purposes amounted to 516,380 people from January through March 2023, which is an increase of 55 percent compared to 333,114 in 1Q2022, Trend reports via Russian Federal Service for State Statistics (Rosstat).
According to Rosstat, the largest number of Tajik citizens, namely 349,357 persons, arrived in Russia for working purposes, which is a rise of almost 40 percent compared to the same period in 2022 (249,623 persons).
Some 140,407 people from Tajikistan visited Russia for personal reasons, while 12,319 persons traveled for educational purposes and 3,298 persons as tourists.
Notably, the number of tourists from Tajikistan visiting Russia during the specified period increased by 12.3 times year-on-year (266 tourists in 1Q2022).
The majority of Tajikistan's citizens came to Russia by air transport – 363,579 people, followed by road transport – 129,669 people and railway transport – 16,115 people, and about 7,000 people crossed the border by foot.
Overall, 1.5 million citizens of Tajikistan arrived in Russia in 2022, which is a decrease of 21 percent compared to 1.9 million people in 2021.
