UN shares data on Tajikistan's funding for 2023-2026

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 4. The United Nations plans to deliver funding of nearly $370 million to Tajikistan for the country’s development in 2023-2026, as a part of a new cooperation agreement, Trendreports with reference to the UN.

The statement was made following a high-level event for the 30th anniversary of the UN’s presence in Tajikistan.

The UN partners, government ministries and organizations, diplomatic corpus, a number of civil and international organizations, activists and the UN agencies in Tajikistan participated in the event.

“We are confident that our country will further continue promoting global initiatives in the United Nations and will strengthen its cooperation with all UN member-states,” Farhod Salim, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, said during the meeting.

At the same time, the UN Resident Coordinator said she was proud that the UN had been working hand in hand with the government and partners to help Tajikistan to realize its national development aspirations.

“Today, we have reached a new era. The era of “cooperation” versus “assistance.” And what better way to demonstrate this much more mature and elevated partnership than Tajikistan’s role in the global water agenda.” she added.

Notably, the organization has provided more than $1 billion as assistance for development in Tajikistan since 2005. UN programs cover various sectors and topics. The assistance includes upstream policy development, capacity development of institutions, as well as direct services and aid to the population.

Tajikistan became a United Nations member in 1992. The UN supports Tajikistan to achieve its national priorities. As for today, these priorities are focused on sustainable development, peace and security, and human rights.
