TEHRAN, Iran, June 17. Iran is developing offshore and onshore oilfields with domestically built top drive drilling rigs, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.
A top drive is a big motor system which is hoisted in a derrick or mast of a drilling rig. A top drive has been popular for many drilling contractors and oil operators. Top drives can be used on all types of rigs, from truck-mounted rigs to offshore rigs.
Iran's Noavaran Sanaat Company is annually building from 5 to 8 top drives that are delivered to drilling companies, said the Managing Director of the company Abbasali Gorji.
He pointed out that the country no longer relies on foreign products and National Iranian Drilling Company is increasing the number of domestic top drives in its drilling fleet.
