Iran's trade with Japan down

TEHRAN, Iran, September 5. Iran-Japan’s trade volume has declined to less than $30 million in 2022, said the chairman of Iran – Japan Joint Chamber of Commerce Bahram Shakouri, Trend reports citing ILNA.

"There are currently no official trade ties between the two countries," he said, adding that oil export is the major part of trade and the volume of Iran’s non-oil export to Japan is insignificant.

Japan unofficially imports hand woven and machine made carpets, caviar, saffron, date, shrimp, pistachio and nuts from Iran and the possible agreement for the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal would promote ties between the two countries and export of non-oil products, said Shakouri.

He underlined Japan’s capacity for cooperation in technology, gas fields development, railway transportation, auto industry, and tourism.

He also pointed out that Iran and Japan can jointly invest in production of innovative goods.

According to the official, sanction and Japan’s long geographical distance from Iran has created obstacles for trade.
