BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 24. Tajikistan registered a substantial increase in imports of products from Georgia in April 2023, Trend reports.
As evidenced by the Georgian statistics, Tajikistan’s imports from Georgia increased by 3.7 times year-on-year in the reporting period – from $771,560 up to $2.877 million.
Overall, imports by Tajikistan from Georgia in the period from January through April 2023 amounted to $12.691 million, witnessing a year-on-year growth of 3.7 times compared to $3.374 million in the same period of 2022.
In the meantime, Tajikistan’s exports to Georgia remained very moderate. In April this year, Tajikistan exported to Georgia goods for $5,500, which is 11 times less than in April 2022 ($63,130).
Last year, the overall trade turnover between Tajikistan and Georgia reached $22.9 million, marking a significant increase of 1.8 times compared to the $12.5 million recorded in 2021.
During the reporting period, imports from Georgia to Tajikistan amounted to $22.6 million, demonstrating a growth of 1.8 times compared to the $12.4 million in 2021.
On the other hand, Tajikistan's exports to Georgia in 2022 amounted to $304,250, experiencing a substantial increase of 5.7 times compared to the $53,170 recorded in 2021.
Machinery and transport equipment accounted for the major share of Georgian exports to Tajikistan, reaching $17.5 million in the previous year.
