Uzbekistan, South Korea determined to develop trade and economic cooperation

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 29. Uzbekistan and South Korea agreed at a recent meeting to boost trade and economic cooperation, Trend reports citing the Uzbek Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade.

The matter was discussed between Uzbekistan’s First Vice-Minister of Investment and Trade Laziz Kudratov and Korean officials of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and Eximbank of Korea.

During the meeting, the parties discussed questions of accelerating the implementation of major joint projects such as the "Construction of a multifunctional clinic for adults", "Creation of a medical university", "Construction of an oncology clinic", as well as "Creation of a pharmaceutical cluster Tashkent Pharma Park".

Furthermore, the sides talked about the implementation of the second phase of the "Uzbek-Korean technological center of rare metals and hard alloys” project. In this regard, the Korean side decided to allocate an additional grant of $12 million for the generation of new industrial projects aimed at attracting investment by Korean companies in the mining and processing of rare and nonferrous metals in Uzbekistan.

At the same time, the Korean side expressed its willingness to provide phytosanitary permits for supplying Uzbek grapes and melons to the country’s market. To date, Korea has already granted permits for the supply of 43 types of Uzbek fruits and vegetables and dried fruits.

Moreover, Uzbekistan and South Korea touched upon the perspectives of cooperation in the banking and financial sector, in particular, and an agreement on opening a branch of South Korea's Gyeongnam Bank in Uzbekistan was reached.
