Arif Malikov’s work enters Swedish music school repertoire

At the initiative of Azerbaijani pianist Aynur Melikova, who lives in Sweden, the piece “Komden’s Dreams” from the ballet “The Legend of Two Hearts” by prominent Azerbaijani composer Arif Malikov has been included in the repertoire of the Lidingö Music School in Sweden. This step is of great importance for the integration of Azerbaijan’s rich musical heritage into Europe’s educational system.

Providing details on the digitization of the work and its inclusion in the school’s repertoire, pianist Aynur Melikova noted that “Komden’s Dreams” holds a special place in Arif Malikov’s creative legacy. She emphasized the piece’s deep emotional impact, high artistic and aesthetic value, and rich melodic structure.

“Every time I perform this piece, I feel that it reveals new nuances for me. It is as if the music deepens over time and creates a stronger bond with the listener,” said Swedish flutist Katrin Sponberg, another performer of the work.

Swedish musician Gunnar Blomström, after listening to the piece, expressed his desire to study it more deeply from an analytical perspective. According to him, the tonal harmony and structural perfection of the composition inspired the creation of a digital version of “Komden’s Dreams.” While modern musical elements were incorporated into the digital version, the spirit and melodic line of the original composition were fully preserved.

It should be noted that, at the initiative of Aynur Melikova, concerts dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli were organized in Sweden, Denmark, and Malta. Alongside works by Uzeyir Hajibeyli, Arif Malikov’s “Komden’s Dreams” was also performed during these concerts by pianist Aynur Melikova and Swedish flutist Katrin Sponberg.
