BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 20. French Total Eren, a сompany that specializes in the construction, design, financing, and operation of power plants based on renewable energy sources, is ready to implement a project of a wind power plant in Kazakhstan's Zhambyl region, Trend reports, citing KAZAKH INVEST JSC.
The remark was made at the meeting between the management of the French company, Ardak Zebeshev, Chairman of the Investment Committee of the Kazakh MFA, as well as the representatives of KAZAKH INVEST and Samruk-Kazyna, the National Welfare Fund of Kazakhstan.
The total capacity of the project is expected to reach 1 GW.
The head of Zhambyl region noted that the local authorities are ready to support this project, and, currently, working on the allocation of a land plot for the construction.
This is the first ever wind farm in Kazakhstan, which will be supplemented by a system of electricity storage. This will smooth out natural fluctuations in renewable generation, accumulate surplus electricity and ensure the stability of the grid. The preliminary cost of the project is $1.9 billion. When the project is operational, it is expected that overall renewable energy generational capacity in the country will increase to 50 percent.
Meanwhile, the implementation of this project was first discussed during the meeting between President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and the management of the French TotalEnergies in France in December 2022.
