Uzbekistan looks to set up solar panels on various facilities

BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 28. Uzbekistan plans to expand the number of solar panels installed on buildings and structures of social facilities and economic entities, Trend reports via press services of Uzbekistan’s President.

According to the statement, the solar panels with a capacity of 220 MW will be installed at social facilities and government departments, at enterprises – 1300 MW, and a newly built apartment buildings – 15 MW.

The number of solar panels will be increased not only in Uzbekistan’s capital Tashkent but also in the regions of the country such as Andijan, Kashkadarya, Surkhandarya, Fergana, Navoi, and Samarkand.

The mentioned measures to increase the country’s renewables deployment are taken within the framework of Uzbekistan’s President Resolution "On measures to accelerate the introduction of renewable energy sources and energy-saving technologies in 2023".

Furthermore, Over the past three years, authorities of Uzbekistan attracted direct investments of $8 billion to the energy sector. Owing to the sum of money, Uzbekistan was able to install solar power plants in Navoi and Samarkand regions.

Earlier in February, Uzbekistan put into operation a new solar power unit with a total capacity of 1.3 MW in the Sirdaryo region’s thermal power plant. The unit will generate an additional 2.3 million kWh of electricity. As a result, 750,000 cubic meters of natural gas will be saved and the emissions will be also reduced.
