BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 18. Uzbekistan plans to double uranium production up to 7,100 tons in 2022-2030, follows by a resolution by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Trend reports via Uzbek media outlets.
According to the document, at the end of 2021, 3,526 tons of uranium were mined in Uzbekistan.
The resolution also approved indicators for the growth rate of uranium reserves in 2022-2030 due to the intensification of exploration work - from 4,700 tons to 10,500 tons (2.2 times).
The resolution approved a list of 20 investment projects worth about $460 million to increase uranium production in the country.
According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Uzbekistan ranks seventh in the world in terms of uranium reserves and fifth in its production. The country is not a consumer of uranium products and all uranium produced there is exported.
