BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 16. Azerbaijan Railways CJSC has started the process of purchasing 605 container platforms, Trend reports via the company.
This process is aimed at meeting the current demands in the field of transit cargo transportation.
"Moreover, a number of important decisions have been made on the acquisition and overhaul of mainline and shunting locomotives sufficient to ensure transit cargo transportation," said the statement.
Back in December 2022, Azerbaijan Railways' Chairman Rovshan Rustamov said the company was eyeing a railway transformation in 2023.
In particular, he spoke about the Baku-Sumgayit route, which is capable to transport 20,000-25,000 passengers a day.
At the time, he said 10 more high-speed trains are planned to be purchased for this route. Agreements on the matter have been reached as of yet and the first trains will arrive in Azerbaijan by the end of 2023.
