As part of the 57th Cairo International Book Fair in Egypt, a seminar on “Egyptian Literature in the Mirror of Azerbaijani Oriental Studies” was organized.
The event, held in the “Guest of Honor” hall, was initiated and hosted by the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Cairo. During the seminar, the Arabic translation of Azerbaijani researcher Nigar Bakıxanova’s book, Ahmad Shawqi’s Dramaturgy, was presented.
Participants included Emin Yusifzadə, Second Secretary of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Egypt; Seymur Nəsirov, professor at Cairo University and head of the Azerbaijani community; expert on former USSR countries Əhməd Abdoh Tarabik; and the book’s Arabic translator, Russian literature specialist Məhəmməd Nəsrəddin Cəbali.
Seymur Nəsirov noted that there is a strong interest in Arabic language and Oriental studies in Azerbaijani society. He highlighted prominent scholars such as Ələsgər Məmmədov, Vasim Məmmədəliyev, Ziya Bünyadov, and Aidə İmanquliyeva, who have created a rich and valuable scientific legacy in Arabic language and literature. He also mentioned that Arabic is still taught today in Oriental Studies faculties at Azerbaijani higher education institutions.
Other speakers emphasized the significance of the book, describing Ahmad Shawqi’s dramaturgy as an important contribution to world literature. At the conclusion of the event, copies of the book translated into Arabic were gifted to attendees.
