The leadership and members of the Izmir Azerbaijan Culture and Solidarity Association, which is part of the Federation of Turkey–Azerbaijan Associations, visited the Khojaly Martyrs’ Memorial in Bornova on the occasion of the 36th anniversary of the January 20 tragedy.
The cherished memory of the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and Türkiye was honored with deep respect. Prayers were offered for their souls, and flower wreaths were laid at the memorial.
Eshref Tuna, Chairman of the Izmir Azerbaijan Culture and Solidarity Association, spoke about the massacre committed by the Soviet army in Baku on the night of January 19–20, 1990, noting that during those days they became the voice of Azerbaijan in Izmir. He described January 20 as a symbol of the Azerbaijani people’s struggle for freedom.
Azerbaijani actress Roza Ibadova Kocamaz, who participated in the event, commemorated the martyrs of January 20 with deep respect and love, stating that the heroes would never be forgotten.
